Raymarine A06068 – SeaTalkNG Backbone Cable, 9M
The A06068 is a 9-metre (29.5 ft) pre-made SeaTalkNG backbone cable — the longest single-segment backbone cable in the Raymarine SeaTalkNG range. Like all SeaTalkNG backbone cables, it carries both network data and 12 V DC power along the backbone trunk, with blue-keyed locking backbone connectors at both ends for direct connection to T-pieces, 5-way connector blocks, and other backbone junction hardware. At 9 metres, it is designed for large vessel installations where a single long backbone run spans the full length of the vessel or connects widely separated network zones.
Product Details
- Part Number: A06068
- Brand: Raymarine
- Type: SeaTalkNG Backbone Cable
- Length: 9 m (29.5 ft)
- Connector Type: SeaTalkNG blue backbone locking connector (both ends)

Compatible Applications
- Large vessel SeaTalkNG backbone installations requiring a single long trunk run of up to 9 metres
- Sailboats and motoryachts where the backbone must span from the helm to the nav station, engine room, or aft cockpit in a single run
- Backbone extensions where shorter pre-made lengths (400mm, 1M, 3M, 5M) don’t cover the required span without chaining multiple cables
- Replacing a long backbone segment in an existing SeaTalkNG installation
- Connecting Raymarine MFDs, autopilot systems, radar scanners, instrument displays, and sonar modules across a large vessel on a single shared backbone
System Overview
SeaTalkNG is Raymarine’s onboard networking standard, electrically and functionally compatible with NMEA 2000. The backbone is the main trunk of the network, running through the vessel and distributing both data and 12 V DC power to all connected devices via spur cables at T-piece or 5-way block junction points. Both ends of every backbone must be terminated with terminator plugs (A06031) for the network to operate correctly.
Backbone Cable Size Comparison
- A06033 – 400mm (1.3 ft) — Short bridging segment between adjacent junction points
- A06034 – 1M (3.3 ft) — Compact trunk run for closely spaced devices
- A06035 – 3M (9.8 ft) — Mid-length backbone segment
- A06036 – 5M (16.4 ft) — Longer single-segment backbone cable
- A06068 – 9M (29.5 ft) — This product — longest single-segment pre-made backbone cable
Parts Desk Insights
Best Use Case: The A06068 is the right choice for large vessel installations where the backbone must run a long distance between junction points in a single uninterrupted segment — for example, from a helm T-piece forward to a bow anchor station, or aft from the nav station to an engine room junction block on a 40+ foot vessel. Using a single 9M cable for a long run avoids the additional connectors that come with chaining shorter cables, which reduces potential failure points and keeps the installation cleaner.
Common Issues: At 9 metres, cable routing and management are the biggest installation considerations. Always measure the full routing path — including bends, conduit runs, and clearance around equipment — before ordering, as a 9M cable offers little slack if your measured run is close to that length. Ensure the blue backbone connectors are fully clicked and locked at both ends; a partially seated backbone connector is the most common cause of intermittent SeaTalkNG network dropouts. Both ends of the backbone still require terminators (A06031) — the cable length does not change the termination requirement.

Technical FAQ
Can I chain this cable with other backbone cables to make an even longer run?
Yes — backbone cables connect end-to-end via T-pieces or 5-way connector blocks. Each junction also provides a spur tap point for connecting a device. There is no practical limit on the number of backbone segments, though total backbone length and node count should stay within Raymarine’s SeaTalkNG network specifications.
Does this cable carry power to my devices?
The backbone carries 12 V DC power from the backbone power cable (A06049) to all T-pieces and 5-way blocks along the run. Individual devices draw power from the backbone through their spur connections.
Do I still need terminators with a 9M cable?
Yes — every SeaTalkNG backbone requires a terminator (A06031) at each open end, regardless of cable length. Without terminators the network will not initialise correctly.
Is this compatible with NMEA 2000?
SeaTalkNG is electrically compatible with NMEA 2000. The blue locking backbone connectors are Raymarine-proprietary. If you are connecting standard NMEA 2000 DeviceNet devices to this backbone, see the adaptor options in the Related Products section above.
